Fantastic Summer Fun

Wow, what a summer we have lined up for the Pack this year.  We are working on the schedule and it is looking very exciting.  The final details will be posted soon but in the mean time here is a sneak peek at a fun filled summer of scouting.

May has some hiking, a pizza party, fishing and an ice cream social!

June includes a pack swim at JCC and a trip to Sno Cove Water Park. We may even get a bus if enough people are interested!

July of course has many camping opportunities at Acahela but we have also thrown in our Pack Picnic with our famous 70 foot Slip ‘N Slide!

August rounds out the camping at Acahela with one last Parent & Pal weekend. Then we have Pack camping at Cozy Creek Campground in Tunkhannock with special arrangements to keep the pool open until 10 p.m. August will also have an Aqunaut class for any Webelos that do not earn it at camp.

September is back to school but the fun does not end just because school is back in session. We will have one more Pack Campout at Cozy Creek this time with a kid friendly Halloween theme.

Please join us for as many of these great events as you can. Times and dates are still being worked out and we will post them here as soon as they are all final.

If anyone has any suggestions for other things to do please contact the Cubmaster.

Scouting For Food

On March 17th the Scouts from Pack 241 hung up Scouting For Food door hangers in local neighborhoods.

On March 24th they went back to collect the food items left out by their neighbors.

The Boy Scouts from Troop 241 sorted and delivered the food to the Back Mountain Food Pantry. We collected enough food to completely fill Mr. Ide’s truck including the back seat!!

Thank you to all the scouts, parents, and leaders from the Pack and the Troop for making this such a success.

Great Job.  You can see more photos in the Photo Gallery.

District Derby

Our racers have been registered for the race.

Races are run by den so be sure to see what time your son’s den is racing. You do not need to be there for the entire day. Just going for your race is perfectly acceptable. If you want to watch other races that is fine but you don’t need to stay. Trophies will be awarded after each den races.

Good Luck at the races!!!

2012 Cross Over

Congratulations to our Webelos II Scouts who crossed over to Boy Scouts during our Blue & Gold Banquet on February 26th.

Dillon, Luke, Casey and Tyler crossed over to Troop 444 in Sweet Valley and Ernie crossed over to Troop 241.

We wish them well as they embark on their Boy Scout journey to Eagle Scout.  I am sure they will make the pack proud.

Webelos Survival Skills

Back in January our Webelos scouts participated in a Survival Skills event as a part of  Winter Fin Day held at Kirby Park.

The fact that is snowed the night before made the event so much better. The boys had to find a good location, build a shelter and collect enough material from the environment to start a fire and keep it burning for at least an hour.  Correct positioning of the shelter was important and they also had to show their knowledge of survival skills and first aid.

Our boys came in 4th place which is up two places from last year.

Way to go 241 Webelos.

Pack 241 Adopts A Soldier

Pack 241 has partnered with Soldiers’ Angels and adopted a soldier in Afghanistan.  His name is Reggie and he is one of a small group of Navy corpsmen who care for unit of 55 Marines at an outpost in Afghanistan. This is our service project until at least August of this year.

Each month we will collect items that will be sent to this unit in care packages.  All of our scouts are asked to write letters that can be included in these packages. The guys love getting hand made cards and letters from the boys. Along with the letters we will be sending pack photos.

Here is a note from Reggie that includes a partial list of items he would like us to collect for his unit.

I would like to thank you for your support. We are in an isolated area and have the bare minimum, so anything you could send to me, would be much appreciated.  I would very much like to help out my fellow HM’s (corpsmen) and Marines by being a point of contact.  We have about 55 individuals here.  We are an all male unit as of now.  The following items would be greatly appreciated by all of us:

Sun screen – Chap stick – Insect repellent wipes
DVDs   (any movies, tv-shows, etc are good. Used DVD’s are fine, but if you can manage some recent releases, that will be great)

Snacks of all kinds are always a hit:  hostess-type cakes, little-debbie, granola bars, pop-tarts, beef jerky are always popular.

Thank you for supporting me and God Bless
